2014 REU Participant to Research Climate Change Using Ice Cores

800 600 Stroud Water Research Center

Last summer, Abigail Thayer participated in the Research Experience for Undergraduates, a National Science Foundation program, at Stroud™ Water Research Center, where she learned about researching Earth’s Critical Zone.

“It was exciting to see how Stroud Center engages the community in research,” Thayer said, adding that the experience provided her with a new perspective on science education and outreach.

“These experiences helped to shape my career outlook, and I look forward to applying many of the practices I learned at Stroud Center to my own research and outreach in the future.”

This fall, Thayer will start a Ph.D. program in geochemistry at the University of Colorado Boulder, supported by the National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship Program.

Her research will focus on using ice cores to understand global climate change. She will also use her findings to communicate to the public the importance of protecting our environment.
